Publishing Info

Publishing involves various different things:

  1. registering compositions with the MCPS/PRS collection societies
  2. sourcing commercial opportunities for the compositions
  3. collecting royalties and distributing them to the client composers

There are two main types of musical royalties associated with publishing:

  • Mechanical Royalties – royalties generated through the sale of compositions in shops and online stores. Collected by MCPS
  • Performance Royalties – royalties generated through public performance & broadcast of compositions. Collected by PRS

The mechanical royalties generated from digital sales of a composition, such as from online shops, are generally very small so there would need to be many sales in order to generate any sizeable mechanical income.

The performance royalties can be quite sizeable if the compositions are featured on national TV, radio or film, it would depend on how much they are featured. Music must be assigned to a publisher in order to be accepted for television broadcast.

As a publisher we don’t yet deal with song-writers directly because we do not give advances but if a songwriter is achieving some success with their compositions, or there is interest from broadcasters but the compositions are unpublished, then we may be able to assist by publishing their works and collecting  royalties on there behalf.

Inigo Music can be considered an administrator and collection agent for musical works. Therefore if you have unpublished catalogues of works we can publish them on your behalf and pay you the vast majority of any income that is generated from those catalogues.
